Membership

The New Zealand Association of Women in Aviation is an enthusiastic group that aims to foster networks, unity and sorority among women interested in aviation. Since 1960 we have been promoting and assisting women to undertake aviation activities and learning both within New Zealand and as representatives overseas.

Membership ranges from ages 2 to 92, from PPL student to ATPL captain, from balloonist to glider pilot to engineer, meteorologist,  air traffic controller and all enthusiasts in between.

Membership renewal: for current members your subs are due by 31 March 2023 for year 1 April 2024 – 31 March 2025. These should be paid via bank transfer to 030399-0078431-00 please state your name and ‘SUBS’ as reference.

Ordinary membership: $60.00
Student membership (full-time): $30.00
Silver Wings membership: optional
Senior membership (65+): $30.00
3-year membership: $162
New members: Additional $15 one-time joining fee


Membership Types

Ordinary Member:

Women who hold or have held or are training for a pilot or microlight, glider or parachute certificate (or any other licence or certificate connected with aviation) or whom have an active interest in aviation.

Student Member:

Women who currently studying full-time and are training for, already hold or have held:

  • a pilot or microlight licence,
  • or glider,
  • or parachute certificate,
  • or any other aviation related licence,
  • or certificate connected with aviation,
  • or whom have an active interest in aviation
  • a student member is required to be currently enrolled full time with a secondary or tertiary education establishment and shall provide proof of enrolment.
Silverwings Member:

being an ordinary member whom has held continuous membership of the Association for 35 years. Payment of the annual subscription is optional from their date of appointment.

Associate Member:

Being any persons female or male whom are interested in aviation but are not eligible for admission as ordinary members. Associate members have no voting powers and may not be elected to the Executive.

Honorary Member:

Being a member whom has been extended the privileges of being a member by the Executive Committee.

Foundation Member:

Being those ordinary members whom were enrolled for the inaugural meeting of the Association in April 1960.


Membership Benefits

RALLY!

We hold an annual Rally during June at King’s Birthday Weekend at different locations, alternating between the North and South Islands across New Zealand. You would have the opportunity to fly-in for a memorable weekend of competition, education and friendship. There are competitions and awards for pilots at all levels of experience including fixed-wing, glider, helicopter and microlight aircraft pilots as well as for parachutists.

ASSOCIATE!

Rally and other events provide the opportunity to network within the industry socially and professionally – share experiences and advice with fellow aviators.

SCHOLARSHIP!

NZAWA provides three annual Awards to members (check them out here /link) as well as monetary support for international representation on a case by case basis. Current members receive a subsidy to attend Rally! Externally NZAWA provides awards to women via:

FLYING-IN!

Flying in is a great opportunity to learn new skills, adventure through different terrain and enjoy camaraderie with like-minded enthusiasts. Learn from the experiences of others; safety and technical advice are readily available.

REPRESENTATION!

The Association is a member of The New Zealand Aviation Federation – they provide lobbying of government authorities on behalf of members’ interests.

COMMUNICATION!

Our amazing editors compile a bi-monthly newsletter packed with articles and photos covering a wide range of topics together with relevant industry information.

Need a place to stay while waiting out the weather? membership list, home stay options and mentoring information are proved in our annual Members’ Directory.

TRADITION!

The aviation industry is constantly changing and The NZAWA has seen it through some big shifts. Thanks to the foresight or Rhona Fraser and our Foundation Members the Association has been there for it’s members. We have amazing resources and knowledge in our library and archives that members have access to.

CELEBRATION!

The New Zealand Association of Women in Aviation is about championing it’s members and celebrating their successes and achievements.
